The Hopeful Journey of Chloe the Great-horned Owlet - A Story of Rescue, Care, and Family

On the crisp morning of March 18, 2026, a tiny great-horned owlet named Chloe found herself in trouble. While exploring near her nest high above Mercey Hot Springs, she accidentally tumbled to the ground below. Fortunately, a kind-hearted guest noticed her predicament and quickly came to her aid.

Concerned about Chloe’s well-being, the guest gently scooped her up and brought her to Lindsay Wildlife Experience – a Walnut Creek-based nonprofit whose facilities include the Lindsay Wildlife Museum and the Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital. There, caring staff and volunteers examined her and were relieved to find no major injuries. She was given warmth, nourishment, and attentive care, while staff worked toward a happy reunion with her family.

Eight days later, Chloe returned to Mercey Hot Springs, nestled safely in a basket placed just below her parents’ nest. According to Allison G., a dedicated volunteer at Lindsay Wildlife Experience, Chloe’s parents soon recognized her and resumed feeding her as if she had never left. From that moment, Chloe grew stronger each day, and recently she started to explore the tree by stepping out onto the branches along with her sibling. Soon, Chloe and her sibling will take their short flights and explore the world around them.
